General Dentistry Procedures for a Healthy Smile
Dr. John Savukinas is a premier general and cosmetic dentist in Rockville, MD and has been serving patients with advanced dental treatments since 1994. If you want to maintain optimal oral health for life, work with Dr. Savukinas for all of your general dentistry services. From tooth extractions to gum surgery, Dr. Savukinas will do whatever he can to help you maintain healthy teeth and gums for years to come.
We may administer local anesthesia before a procedure or treatment to numb certain areas of the mouth. Local anesthesia is a very effective way to reduce discomfort when performing tooth extractions, fillings, and other procedures.
If you have a severely decayed or damaged tooth, or significant bone loss around a tooth, Dr. Savukinas may recommend a simple or surgical tooth extraction. Extractions are performed in the office and are relatively painless. We may recommend a dental implant or other tooth replacement option after a tooth has been removed.
We serve our younger patients with a full range of pediatric dentistry procedures. Children and pre-teens often need specialty services, such as fluoride treatments and sealants. We offer these services and also take the time to educate patients about proper brushing and flossing techniques.
If you have an infected tooth that requires a root canal, Dr. Savukinas can perform this common procedure in a single visit under local anesthesia. A root canal can save an infected tooth from suffering further damage or requiring extraction. We will often need to strengthen the tooth with a custom crown.
You may have lost bone tissue around the area where tooth loss has occurred. Bone grafting procedures restore the health and functioning of your jaw. Dr. Savukinas may use autogenous, allograft and xenograft techniques to perform a successful bone graft.
If you have gum disease that has not responded well to certain types of periodontal procedures, you may need to undergo a gingivectomy that involves removing and reshaping loose gum tissue to reduce periodontal pocket depths. We can also perform a gingivectomy to improve a “gummy smile.” This in-office procedure is performed under local anesthetic.
We understand that emergency situations do occur. You may need to see a dentist if one of your teeth gets knocked out, you are experiencing a severe toothache, or you have an abscessed area in your mouth. We take care of most emergency cases throughout the week and can usually accommodate a same day appointment.
